FOOTBALL - WENVOE COLTS Although Wenvoe Colts is one of the smaller Clubs in the League, our teams have always done well and regularly succeed at various tournaments held throughout the Vale. Wenvoe Colts offers all local children the
chance to participate in football whatever their ability. As well as
being a great way to exercise, the children benefit by playing a
team sport and build up great friendships with their fellow players.
They also get to represent the village throughout the Vale of
Glamorgan. The club has many playing and social members from the village and has made a considerable effort to encourage youngsters to take up the game and now have a Junior section some 60 strong. With the help of volunteers and the Club Professional, our junior players are very successful at local and national level. The Golf Club is a popular venue for social
events, open to members and non-members alike, such as Weddings,
Christenings, Anniversaries, Dinners, BBQ’s, Dances, Quiz nights and
Bridge evenings as well as offering normal restaurant and bar
facilities. The smaller, but more challenging, Terrain is located in the car park of the Wenvoe Arms public house, which is situated in the heart of the village and provides 4 Pistes, used for League Competitions, but is also available for social play for smaller numbers of players. The Club currently has a membership in excess of 30, most of whom are regular players, and fields 3 Teams in the South Wales League. You’re welcome to have a go on three occasions
before you make up your mind, if you do decide you’d like to join
the Club. The present group has around fourteen members
and we play every Tuesday evening and also meet up for social
events. In 1993 the Wenvoe Cricket Club celebrated its centenary with a 40 over game against Glamorgan and also organised other celebratory games. For the last thirty years the club has been part of South East Wales club cricket organised through affiliation to the M.C.C. In playing terms Wenvoe has always fielded two teams every Saturday and has given a good account of itself and has won some of the leagues in which they have been entered, particularly in the last decade in 1996 and 2001.
