LEISURE GROUP
Members were asked to bring along and give a brief talk on “an item of interest”. Margaret (M) entertained us with tales about her “Dammit” and “Line Dancing Joe” dolls and a silver teapot bequeathed to Pam (F) formed the background to tales about her childhood on a farm and Miss Mandesley, a retired hospital matron and their nearest neighbour. Handy household and gardening tips were exchanged.
What a gorgeous sunny day we had for our outing to Moreton-in-the Marsh and Bourton on the Water on the 23rd. It was also the day England had to win their match in order to qualify for the play offs and English flags were in evidence everywhere. (The match commentary was even being broadcast in the public toilets in Bourton). Our thanks to Shirley for organising the outing, to Sue for dealing with the finances, to Shirley and Phyllis for the raffle, and to the members and non members who made the day so enjoyable.
Wimbledon fortnight, famous for tennis and strawberries and cream, we aren’t agile enough for tennis anymore, but we can still enjoy strawberries and cream as we proved on the 30th. Our thanks to
Peter and Eileen for their early morning visit to the market to purchase the strawberries and plating them for us and to Shirley and Phyllis for the raffle.
On Wednesday 17th July we enjoyed several games of Bingo. On the 14th in just 35 minutes Ann Lush created 6 completely different floral arrangements mainly using flowers and greenery from her own garden, proving you don’t need expensive flowers to make an arrangement. Ann kindly donated these as our raffle prizes. Whilst working on the arrangements she also brought us up to date with some of the projects she is working on at present, including making wedding cakes, floral arrangements for corporate events, organising Penarth gardens Open Day. Ann became 70 early this year and her family had arranged for a floribunda rose to be named after her and this will be on sale next year
